Sean Brogan, of Coombe Vale Road, Teignmouth, writes:

The latest so-called 'consultations' by Devon County Council about the fate of our local community facilities are now taking place.

At stake is the complete closure of our youth centres, elderly and day care homes, children's homes, women's refuge facilities and a long list of libraries in our smaller towns such as Ashburton, Buckfastleigh and Ipplepen (the full list can be found on the Devon County website).

The cuts in our services are not even half way through.

I have attended some of these 'consultations' and the one in Newton Abbot on the future of the Junction Youth was merely a sham, the decisions having already been made in my opinion!

And what of the community properties being sold? A visit to the Norfolk Property Services (NPS Southwest) website will show that they are selling off closed down properties. They work with DCC in a 'joint venture' and share the profits 50/50.

I believe NPS's new manager is a former DCC councillor who has now resigned his seat. This councillor has been described as 'the chief architect in the closures and cuts'.

These closures should be stopped.

Jackie Hooper, of Coombesend Road, Kingsteignton, writes:

The MDA has been informing us recently of lots of local cut backs in council spending. We learn that our library will no longer be funded, our youth centres will have all their funding cut, public toilets in some areas closed or hours cut back and it is quite obvious that potholes need fixing and roads repaired.

If our local councils are cutting back in all these areas that are important to us and our council tax fees are still going up then I have a question.

Where is all my tax money going? It is certainly not being spent on local sports as local tennis clubs have had their ground rent increased tenfold. What are our local councils up to?

Could our local councillors please write an article in this paper explaining in plain English where all our money is going?
