A Buckfastleigh-based engineering firm has been condemned by human rights activists for its involvement in a Burmese dam project which, they say, will see 8,000 villagers displaced and 23 villages destroyed.,Malcolm Dunstan and Associates, which specialises in concrete construction, is one of four companies which have been urged to withdraw from the Upper Paunglaung Dam, which will provide power for Burma's new military capital, Nay Pyi Taw.,A report by Burma Campaign UK in May claimed that 8,000 villagers have been given until October to leave their homes in return for $50 compensation.,It says that security at the $120m dam project has led to increased militarisation in the area. Villagers have been forced into unpaid labour for the army, while construction workers at the dam are getting paid $1 a day, although pay is sometimes late and not paid in full.
