Controversial plans for a retirement and care complex on the outskirts of Bovey Tracey have been refused planning permission.

Archstone Lifestyle Homes Ltd wanted to build the 24 homes for the over-55s and a 50-bed nursing home on a two-acre field bordered by Moretonhampstead Road, Southbrook Lane and Monks Way.

It said although the site was in open countryside and in an Area of Great Landscape Value it had once been earmarked for development in an old district plan.
