Almost £550 was raised on Saturday from carnival events in Newton Abbot.

And this year the charities Young Devon and Newton Abbot Community Transport will be the beneficiaries.

The annual procession drew crowds for its journey through the town centre and the 34 groups which took part attracted great interest.

And during the afternoon charity stalls in Courtenay Park drew 200 people, matched as they were with attractions such as mini-golf, head massages and rides for youngsters.

The week-long event began with the crowning of queen Jessica Fleming and more than 100 morris dancers giving a show at the clock tower.

Events included darts, a quiz, historical talks, a tea dance and a fun run.

A tractor pull won by Steve's Naturals pulled in a good audience and nearly 1,500 plastic ducks were floated down the River Lemon from Steppes Meadow to Asda. Winning numbers were 1224, 114 and 416.

Carnival organisers thanked all involved for their hard work and also thanked sponsors for their backing.
