DAWLISH Carnival Committee is looking for volunteer marshals for this year's airshow and carnival procession in August. It is being held on Thursday, August 17, and marshals will have to cover shifts between 11am to 5pm and 5pm to 10pm. Volunteers will be paired with someone who is experienced and trained. They will control crowds, provide information to spectators, assist in the event of an emergency, deal with minor incidents, setting out event signs and closing off roads to traffic. Being part of a 25-strong team, you will also be backed up by the carnival committee, the police and a team of 12 first aiders and medics. You do not need any qualifications, just be over 18, fit enough to spend most of the day on your feet and willing to be part of a team. Contact John Winchester at Dawlish Town Council on 01626 863388 or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected] for more information. A three-hour training/briefing session is at the end of July after which you will be loaned the equipment you need. 'This is your chance to be play a part in one of the biggest events in the south west of England,' said a carnival spokesman. The committee would like to remind any charitable organisation wishing to have a stall at the Carnival Charity Day on Saturday, August 12, on The Lawn, Dawlish that they have to book their pitch through John Hayday on 01626 888409,. There have been rumours that many are being put off attending this year because of the fact of risk assessments etc. The carnival spokesman added: 'We would like to say that there is no need to be worried as the committee will provide you with a simple form on the day which you will be asked to sign to cover this. 'One other area which has to be covered is what is called a street collection licence, which covers any money collected at the event, and is acquired from Teignbridge Council at no cost.'
