A NEW piece of kit has been drafted in, in a bid to help keep Chudleigh clean.

Environmental volunteers in the town will be seen pulling a hand cart around carrying brambles and branches trimmed from footpaths and parks.

The piece of equipment was made by retired engineer Bob Marshall with the purpose of carrying out jobs in Chudleigh.

Town councillor Tessa Frost said: ‘Chudleigh Environment volunteers were formed some years ago in response to the need to clear footpaths and the Chudleigh Leat, they have been lead by Mike Moyse but many people have lent a hand.

More recently the community orchard has been pruned, crowded trees removes and overhanging branches trimmed.

‘Because these areas have not been easily accessible with conventional trailers and comments have been made about getting a more manoeuvrable cart. Now we have one, so ongoing management of our lovely green spaces can continue.’
