CAT owners in Coffinswell have been alerted after two stray dogs savaged a Siamese over the weekend.

The pair – a spaniel and stocky Jack Russell – got hold of pet cat Poppy at both ends and shook her before a neighbour managed to fight them off with a broom.

The shocked victim was taken to a local vet where it had to be put down.

Another cat was also attacked – but survived the ordeal which happened just before 9pm on Sunday.

Police have confirmed they are probing the incident which happened in owner Elizabeth Elliott’s garden.

She said the dogs appeared to have launched their savagery after gaining entry from an adjacent field.

Local cat owners, she added, needed to be aware that the deadly duo were at large.
