CATTLE were evacuated after fire broke out at sheds and barns on a Dartmoor farm early today (mon).

More than 20 firefighters from Exeter, Plymouth, Tavistock and Okehampton tackled the blaze at Sourton Down on the north eastern edge of the national park.

Some 30 tonnes of mixed animal feed and corn, together with 60 bales of straw and hay, were affected by the fire, which was fanned by strong winds after breaking out at 4am.

The fire was under control within six hours.

Half the range of single-storey buildings - measuring 50 metres by 35 metres - was damaged in the blaze.
