Youngsters Heidi and Lily was dressed for the part when they popped along to Newton Abbot Fire Station yesterday to mark International Women’s Day.
The girls were all ears as female recruits Laura Hutchings and Poppy Rothwell, based in Bovey Tracey and Newton Abbot, told them all about a job which was once a male preserve.
The youngsters were given a detailed account of the tasks they might face as key players in the emergency service.
The annual event, which commemorates the movement for women’s rights, featured the Balls Corner station’s fire tower decked out in the Women’s Day colour of purple.
