TEIGNMOUTH Chamber of Commerce is to mark its centenary year with a reception for past and present members. The chamber was founded in 1906 and operated successfully until the first world war, when it was closed for the 'duration'. It was revived in about 1920 and has continued ever since, despite some curtailment during the second world war. Older Teignmothians have retired and disposed of their businesses in recent years. The chamber hopes to revive membership and open up communication with local businesses. The chamber is represented on some town and district authority committees and is consulted on issues that could affect business interests in the town. The reception, with refreshments, is being held on Monday at Teign Corinthian Yacht Club at 5.30pm.
