A community centre in Teignmouth will be celebrating the legacy of its founder with an event on Saturday (July 12)
The Alice Cross Centre will be open from 10am until 1pm for its ‘Alice Cross Day’ event with demonstrations, live music, a tabletop sale and refreshments including breakfast baps and cake from its cafe.
Visitors will get a real taste of what goes on at the community centre with a showcase of the activities and services it offers, demonstrations from some of the groups including seated yoga, line dancing and Zumba Gold, and information about volunteering opportunities and upcoming events.
In the main hall, the legacy of Alice Cross will be celebrated in the centre’s new ‘History Corner’.
Teignmouth mayor councillor Cate Williams will attend to officially open the new fire alarm system, which was installed thanks to a fundraising campaign the centre ran earlier this year.
This year marks the 30 years since Alice Cross BEM died at the age of 100. She devoted her life to caring for others and established what is now known as the Alice Cross Centre to ensure that nobody in the town should feel lonely or forgotten.
