Due to good weather and a high standard of entries, many lined the streets of Moretonhampstead to watch its carnival procession on Thursday. Some unusual sights could be seen on in the town during the procession including a Jamaican bobsleigh team, Freddy Mercury look-a-likes and circus acts. The carnival committee were thrilled that the event was such a success. 'It went very well,' said Jackie Lynch, chairman of Moretonhampstead Carnival Committee. 'We had more people than in past years. The two bands that played – Head Ferret and The Nipper, and John Fuller's Blue Grove – were also excellent. 'It was a great procession and the floats were superb. 'I have to say carnivals aren't dying, they are definitely alive and well in Moretonhampstead.' Mrs Lynch, who has been chairman of the carnival committee for the last five years, is now stepping down from the post. 'I have had a fantastic time, but we need some new blood on the committee,' she said.
