JOHN NORTHCOTT, of Drake Road, Bovey Tracey, writes:
In his recent letter on behalf of Bovey councillors regarding the development of the Old Thatched Inn site, town clerk Mark Wells infers that the vast majority (80 per cent) of residents are in favour of the proposed project. I must challenge this conclusion as the survey on which it was based was subscribed by only 600 replies out of a total electorate of 5,840 plus young people under official voting age.
His letter stated that the ‘town councillors required a factual response’.
These are the full facts: accepting the views of only one tenth of the residents is hardly reasonable grounds for making seriously important decisions about the long-term future of our town!
