A RARE photographic print of music legend David Bowie is being raffled to raise funds for Buckfastleigh Open Air Swimming Pool.
The original photo of the singer, who has just died, was taken by Virginia Turbett when she was working as a rock photographer in London.
She now lives in Buckfastleigh with her family.
She said: ‘The Bowie photos are very special to me, especially at the moment, so letting go of one means a lot. But I think the swimming pool’s a great cause and feel passionately about keeping it going. I can’t wait for it to open again for the summer season.
‘Donating a treasured photo shows how much the pool means to me. I’ve lived in Buckfastleigh for 28 years, and when my children were little they used to almost live in that pool.’
The photograph is a black and white, 20in x 16in digital print, printed on archive paper. It was taken at Wembley Stadium in June 1983 during Bowie’s Serious Moonlight Tour.
‘It has not, to my knowledge, been published anywhere,’ added Ms Turbett.
The print will be tagged number one of a limited edition of 25.
It is unframed so can be posted to a winner anywhere in the world.
Ms Turbett was a professional rock photographer in the 1970s and 1980s. She started in 1977 by photographing the legendary Sex Pistols on stage.
She worked for many iconic publications, including Soundz magazine.
‘I was very lucky and thrown straight into the deep end,’ she added.
‘They were different and very exciting times. We were right in there with the crowd, and up close to the stage.’
