Pub crawls can be expensive, but one held at the weekend raised more than £700 for Ashburton's section of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team. Two of the crawlers, Robbie Emmett from the Teign Valley and Ian Wood of Kingsteignton, dreamed up the idea. They had organised a get together with friends from their student days at Seale-Hayne, and thought it would be good to raise money for a local charity along the way. The pub crawl started in Princetown on Friday at 10.30am, then the group of five men and four women walked on to Hexworthy before spending the night at Widecombe. On Saturday they went to Haytor Vale, Ilsinagton, and camped in the car park of the King of Prussia in Bovey Tracey for the night. On Sunday they went to Chudleigh and then floated along the Teign to finish up in Combeinteignhead. Mr Emmett said: 'We felt it was apt to raise money for Dartmoor Search and Rescue as we live in and around Dartmoor. We also found out that they are completely funded by donations.' Martin Evans, chairman of the Dartmoor team was very pleased to receive the £700. 'This is a significant donation that will help with day to day running costs. Great thanks to Robbie and his illustrious team.'
