FAMILIES looking to stretch their summer budgets a little further can take advantage of a time-limited offer from one of the West Country’s most loved heritage railways.

From now until 5th September 2025, children can travel for free on the South Devon Railway when accompanied by a full fare-paying adult or senior on Return or Ranger tickets.

Up to two children can travel free with each adult using the booking code Summer25, available both online and at ticket offices.

The seven-mile line between Buckfastleigh and Totnes follows the picturesque Dart Valley and offers more than just a scenic journey.

Visitors can explore the characterful towns at either end of the route or stay longer at Buckfastleigh, where the station is home to a museum, model railway, garden walks and a gift shop, all included in the ticket price.

The line also connects with nearby attractions Totnes Rare Breeds Farm and Dartmoor Otters and Buckfast Butterflies.

This summer offer follows strong demand in 2024 and is designed to support local families and visitors with a memorable and affordable day out.

“Family trips can be expensive nowadays and we always want to provide a great day out at an affordable price. This offer makes it even more value for money,” said Ernie Elsworth-Wilson, General Manager of South Devon Railway.

Running trains since 1969 and celebrating over 50 years in preservation, South Devon Railway is the longest established heritage steam railway in the southwest. Originally opened in 1872, it remains a proud piece of local history and a much-loved summer tradition.
