CHRISTMAS is coming back to Teignmouth.

While the traditional lights may not be up, there will still be plenty of decorations and entertainment in the town centre. For safety reasons, the usual icicle lights across the streets cannot be put in place.

However, the town’s traders and town council have pulled out all the stops to make sure Teignmouth is lit up to celebrate the festive season.

Traders are putting Christmas trees outside their premises and the Triangle will have the usual decorated big tree.

The town council is planning a Christmas market and entertainment to celebrate and while the plans will be a bit different from previous years, it is hoped residents will join in and support local performers and traders.

There will be a Christmas market in the Triangles on December 4, Santa will be at the market giving out a small gift to children and there will be carol singing at 5pm supported by Ministers of the town’s churches and Teignmouth Sings.

On the following Saturdays there will be performances by Rock Choir, the Salvation Army plus more.

The popular farmers’ market will be on December 18.

Mayor, Cllr Peter Williams said: ‘We are delighted to be bringing Christmas festivities to our town again after a break last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

‘We already have a great line-up of entertainment and the programme is being added to so keep an eye on the website and Facebook page for up-to-date information.

‘I would like to thank everyone for their support and enthusiasm to put on a great programme.’

Keith Underhill, chairman of the Teignmouth Traders Association commented ‘On behalf of the TTA, I applaud and support the town council’s initiative in bringing Christmas festivities to our town during December.

‘The Christmas market returns, with many of your local traders taking part, plus live entertainment and a visit from Santa for good measure.

‘Please continue to support all your local businesses over the festive season by shopping local, you are maintaining the livelihoods and employment of many residents of the town.’
