CHURCHES in Teignmouth and Dawlish are considering introducing street pastors to the town centres.

Initial talks have already taken place between police and church members at Teignmouth Baptist church to discuss setting up the Christian-organised scheme.

Volunteer street pastors undergo 12 training sessions before they spend time patrolling the streets at night, offering practical help and support.

Sgt Zulhayir Segel, who is in charge of the Dawlish and Teignmouth neighbourhood policing teams, has seen the scheme run successfully in Torbay.
