Chudleigh Amateur Dramatic Society surpassed all previous productions with this bright, fast-moving, hilarious panto, writes Migs Atkinson.

The production of Cinderella has been deftly directed by Laura Scales and Millie Webster and featured some CADS regulars and some new faces, all playing their parts with enthusiasm and skill.

Paul Hurrell as Buttons, and Kevin Boot and Eric Mahy as The Ugly Sisters deserve particular mention as do Alison Palmer’s Prince Charming and Gaynor Seager’s Dandini together with newcomers to CADS, Alice Walker, Irene Gilpin, Kevin Coughlan and Mandy Cole. Also in their first speaking parts, Becky Keyse and Tom Hendy delivered a slick, well-paced line of patter as the shady bankers, Rough and Ready. Sharon Mahy was promoted from pantomime cow in the last production to the all-important clock.

Fairy Godmother Hannah Hurrell had her hands full organising the Sprites-two teams at different performances as so many children wanted to take part.

Indeed, the overall presentation was well-paced, glittery and fun, making excellent use of a difficult space to stage this ambitious show.

Patrick Taylor, in his first outing as musical director for CADS, also led a robust chorus who really looked as if they were enjoying themselves.

Particular mention should be made of the precision of the ‘black and white’ can-can dancers and also the costumes, all made by a group of talented ladies and really enhancing each character’s personality, and of a smart and slick Front of House.

Top marks all round CADS, we look forward to your next production.
