THE south Devon Link Road which will bypass Kingskerswell was among 20 major new transport schemes across the country to be given the go ahead by Chancellor George Osborne.
Making the announcement in his Autumn Statement on Tuesday, Mr Osborne said the dual carriageway bypass would be awarded £76.4 million towards its £110 million cost.
The county and Torbay Council have made up the shortfall, with £500,000 coming from Teignbridge.
Now the local authorities are awaiting the decision of the Secretary of State on the outcome of the 2009 public inquiry and confirmation of road closure orders, a decision that is expected shortly.
Once the all clear is given it is planned to award the design and build construction contract in March, with the main works expected to begin in October and be completed by December 2015.
