TEIGNBRIDGE Council has introduced temporary changes to how it deals with stray dogs following an outbreak of the highly infectious parvovirus.

Foredowne Kennels in Kingskerswell confirmed there is an outbreak of the potentially fatal disease among its strays dogs.

Now Teignbridge Council is working on finding alternative holding locations for any stray dogs found while Foredowne is in lockdown and not taking in any strays currently.

A council spokesman said: ‘Due to a recent parvovirus outbreak, we’ve made temporary changes to how stray dogs are collected and housed.

‘We’re working to secure a suitable alternative holding location for the next two weeks.

‘Protect your dog and vaccinate against fatal diseases like parvovirus and ensure your dog is microchipped as it is the law.’

In the meantime, anyone finding stray dog is advised to stay in the area as the owners may be nearby.

Post of social media and lost pet sites and visit a vet to scan for a microchip.
