RETIRING Ashburton town clerk John Germon is bowing out of local politics after 20 years.

Tributes to his efforts on behalf of the town were led at his final full council meeting on Tuesday night by mayor Cllr John Nutley.

He said Mr Germon had done an ‘absolutely fantastic’ job for Ashburton over the years.

The first citizen wished his town hall ally all the very best in his time away from the council chamber.

Mr Germon, popular for his jocular asides, said he would use his new-found time to fine-tune his domestic cleaning skills.
