COASTGUARDS in Dawlish have become the latest to check out the new seafront.

The team of volunteers headed to the Viaduct to familiarise themselves with the new layout along the reopened sea wall and promenade.

They were particularly keen to check access points for their vehicles.

A spokesman said: ‘Luckily for us we did as we identified that the keys we have for the bollards on the ramp under the right viaduct no longer work.

‘It was then a case of adapt and overcome working out we could use the small ramp under the central viaduct. ‘We also had to do some adjustments to fit our new truck underneath due to the roof rack for the stretchers.

‘Problems overcome, we ended up at Coryton Cove and conducted some casualty care and evacuation training.’

While training at Coryton, the team were treated to a show from a pod of dolphins.

The coastguards thanked the members of the public who stepped to one side while the training was ongoing and are now to arrange for new keys to access the bollards and gates.
