The opening of Kingsteignton's new community 'hub' attracted some 30 supporters on Saturday and marked a new chapter in the community's history.
KingsCare, the league of friends group attached to the town's medical practice, has acquired an empty shop in Fore Street and turned it into a charity shop, internet cafe and volunteer information centre.
Coordinator Maggie Bonnell hopes that in time it will become a single point of contact for all the community groups active in the town.
'The opening went very well and we hope now to continue building on what we have achieved so far,' she said.
The centre will be staffed by volunteers and operate between 9.30am and 4pm weekdays and 9.30am and 1pm Saturdays.
It was opened by mayor Cllr Beryl Austen.
