A NEW British Sign Language (BSL) social event and deaf café is set to take place in Bovey Tracey, offering a welcoming space for communication, learning and connection across the community.

The informal gatherings will take place at Riverside Community Centre on Friday, July 3, and Friday, September 4, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

They are open to deaf and hard of hearing people, BSL users of all abilities, family members, carers, friends and anyone interested in learning or practising basic sign language.

Organisers Epic Laser Designs, a Devon-based creative studio specialising in laser engraving, say the aim is to create an inclusive environment where people can meet, chat and build confidence in communication.

Beginners are especially welcome.

A qualified tutor from Smartsigns BSL will attend the sessions to offer support and guidance.

Entry is free, with tea, coffee and conversation provided, as organisers encourage residents to ‘sign, chat and connect’.
