A MAN quizzed about the hit and run accident in Kingsteignton which left a young dad fighting for his life has been released without charge.

Police confirmed today that a 32-year-old man from Buckfastleigh had been questioned in connection with the late-night incident in Gestridge Road on April 8.

A spokesman confirmed this morning that the man had been released without charge. No further action was being taken.

Officers are still anxious to hear from anyone who may be able to identify the offending motorist who left 25-year-old Jason Bunce lying seriously injured in the road as he returned home after night-out with pals.

Anyone with information should ring police on 101, quoting log 53 of April 8. The hit and run happened near Gestridge Road’s junction with Exeter Road between midnight and 1am.

Jason, the father a 12-weeks-old baby boy, has come out of his induced coma and been transferred from Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital to Torbay Hospital.

His condition, after the move on May 4, remains critical but stable.

Meanwhile, his family has thanked everyone for their support at such a difficult time.

On Saturday, friends gathered in Kingsteignton for a community show of support for Jason.

Jason’s dad, Steve Bunce, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who had helped the family throughout their ordeal.

He also paid tribute to Alec Munro who organised the weekend show of strength - and in ‘raising awareness of what has happened.’

Mr Bunce also thanked those who had made donations to website funding pages set up to alleviate Jason’s family’s financial difficulties during the ‘horrendous ordeal.’
