DEVELOPERS hoping to create an urban village at Kingsteignton are 'committed to the views of the community', parish councillors were told at a closed meeting on Monday.
Bob Williams, chief executive of Arnold White Estates, wants to create a multi-million 'vision for the future' featuring homes, community facilities and nature areas on previously quarried land north of the village and is hoping the community will contribute to the scheme.
Workshops are being planned for the new year so that people can find out about the key issues and put forward ideas.
Mr Williams said: 'A cornerstone of our philosophy is to work with the community and to listen to what they have to say.
'We will, in due course, welcome ideas from the general public in the hope that we can provide both structure and relevant information to the workshop sessions to enable meaningful results and actions to emerge.'
Plans shown to Teigngrace and Kingsteignton parish councillors revealed that land owned in part by ball clay company WBB at Jetty Marsh, Sandygate and Rixey Corner, could be engulfed by the plans.
If planning permission is granted, it is thought that more than 2,000 homes could be created.
Kingsteignton parish and Teignbridge councillor Mike Walters said there was a 'good exchange of ideas' at the meeting.
Though plans are 'very vague', Cllr Walters said: 'It is all embracing because one of the major concerns is that in the past developments have taken place that haven't been done with a view to giving improved infrastructure and support. Because of that the community has suffered.'
Ideas put forward by Mr Williams include removing large vehicle traffic from the village by providing a road around the north of the village.
Schooling, flood defence, employment land and sport facilities also feature in the ideas.
Cllr Walters welcomed the workshops in the new year.
'My feeling is that we should have a form of control by having our say.
'If this is tackled properly, then probably Kingsteignton will be fairly happy,' he said.
More detailed proposals will be considered by the parish council before Christmas.
