Residents concerned about the environmental impact of a housing development on the outskirts of Teignmouth are to hold a public meeting this Wednesday (May 14).

The meeting, which will take place between 4pm and 6pm at Bitton House, will enable local residents to share their concerns about the impact that the housing development on Higher Exeter Road is having on the local environment.

Meeting convenor Judith Watt has asked members of the public to bring along any photos of other evidence showing how the development has impacted on the environment.

Last week Teignbridge District Council issued a temporary stop notice on the Harrington Homes site due to concerns about drainage, the risk of flooding, and the unauthorised storage of soil waste on an area of the development that is supposed to remain as grassland.

There are concerns that the waste will negatively impact on several freshwater springs and the ecology of the rare corky fruited water dropwort plant.

‘When we heard that the developer has invited local Councillors to an ‘open afternoon’ on the site this Wednesday May 14 between 4pm and 6pm, we decided to hold a meeting for local residents to share their concerns,’ Judith commented. ‘And we have invited all Councillors to stop by to hear those concerns,’ she added.
