A MEMORIAL tablet stone bearing the name of a soldier who lost his life in Afghanistan in March will be unveiled at the Newton Abbot war memorial before the Armistice Day Remembrance ceremony on Thursday.
Cpl Stephen Thompson, aged 31, a former Teign School, Kingsteignton, student, who was from Newton Abbot and Bovey Tracey, served with the 1st Battalion The Rifles and was with 3 Rifles Battle Group when he was killed by a roadside bomb while on foot patrol in the Sangin district of Helman province on March 7.
Cpl Thompson had volunteered to deploy as a battle casualty replacement with the 3 Rifles Battle Group.
His parents, Peter and Carol Thompson, will unveil the memorial stone, lay a wreath and pay tribute to their son at a ceremony at 10.45am.
