A FUND to have street lighting put up at a Dawlish black spot is £100 better off thanks to the town council.

It has decided to contribute to the costs of the scheme to bring light to Elmwood Crescent, recently hit by a series of burglaries.

The town council made its donation to the £5,500 cost of the improvement.

It was responding to an appeal by residents who want Devon County Council to fund the scheme as soon as possible.

Vivienne Crellin, who has lived there for 20 years, has been calling for street lighting since August 2001.

She said: 'We had one or two nasty incidents which led me to getting up a petition.

'I don't like walking down there at night.

'And if anyone was lurking down there you wouldn't see them.'

She added that the narrow, unlit lane was used as short cut by people living in the Kingsdown Crescent area.
