ASHBURTON Town Council will not acquire five local assets from Teignbridge District Council.

Following a well-attended Assets Working Group, the town council agreed not to proceed with acquiring Ashburn Close, Barnsley Gardens, Crockerton Cottages, Little Roborough Garden Plots, and the Roborough Lane Reservoir and Tunnel.

The proposal was formally approved by Full Council on May 12.

A further ten assets remain under consideration for possible transfer to the town.

The discussion comes as Teignbridge District Council is being reorganised under local government devolution, with responsibilities set to pass to a new unitary authority.

Town councillors say any assets taken on would need to be funded through the council precept, which forms part of council tax.

Ashburton Town Council is now inviting residents to share their views on the proposals and help shape future decisions about local assets.
