WITH routine business taken care of, the Finance, Resource & General Purposes committee of Bovey Tracey Town Council went on to discuss several pressing matters at a recent meeting at the Riverside Community Centre.

The committee examined a handful of available options for the setting of the precept in 2023/24.

Acutely aware of the significant cost-of-living pressure being felt by households, the committee resovled that it would make the recommendation to Full Council that an increase of 3.47 per cent to the precept be introduced.

A small increase such as this is only possible if the council contributes approximately £20,000 from its reserves.

Elsewhere in the meeting, which was chaired by Councillor Robert Bradshaw, committee members heard from representatives of Bovey Tracey Swimming Pool.

The council resolved to make a contribution of £13,000 to capital works.

It is hoped that said contribution will help to offset the rise in energy costs.

Grant applications on behalf of Bovey Tracey Carnival Committee and Bovey Tracey Youth Action were heard and, after due consideration, the former organisation was awarded £1,000 and the latter £360.

Rounding out the meeting, councillors on the Finance, Resource and General Purposes committee resolved to make a further £2,000 of capital funding available to the remedial works on the river bank through Mill Marsh Park.
