A TOWN councillor has quit over the stalemate in securing double yellow lines for a hazardous stretch of road in Buckfastleigh.

Cllr Jimmy Castle has thrown in the towel after serving the town for nearly five years.

He quit over the long-standing battle to clear the Old Totnes Road of parked cars which clog up the narrow road and make it impassable for large vehicles which in turn endanger the lives of pedestrians as they try to squeeze through gaps.

Mr Castle, who lives in Old Totnes Road, handed in his notice after the last full council meeting earlier this month.
