COUNCILLORS have given the go-ahead for a new crossing in Newton Road, Kingsteignton.
Plans have been in the pipeline for a signal controlled puffin crossing outside Newton Abbot Racecourse for more than two years.
Now the crossing, which will cost £47,000 to install, has been agreed by members of Teignbridge Highways and Traffic Orders committee.
Members heard that the crossing at a busy section of the road between the racecourse and the Premier Inn and the Tesco superstore opposite would 'provide a safe crossing and facilitate access to existing public transport links for pedestrians as well as customers and employees of the adjacent store, hotel complex and racecourse'.
