THERE was a big clean-up in Teignmouth yesterday as Teignbridge and town councillors left the council chamber chat to put in some elbow grease to help their community. It was the biggest spring clean seen in the town for many a day and followed up the district authority's clean-up efforts around Newton Abbot town centre. Among those putting the polish into the council's Cleaner, Greener, Safer campaign in Teignmouth yesterday were council leader and deputy leader Cllrs Alan Connett and Ray Frost. They were joined by council colleagues and volunteers including Teignbridge Council senior management, members of Teignbridge Community Initiatives department, community safety wardens, enforcement officers, the Blitz Team, resorts staff, and representatives of the fire service and the police. The probation service also provided a team of those on community service, there were some young offenders from the youth offending team. The new Teignmouth Fire Station was used as a base for the clean-up operation. While the focus was on the Triangle area, work was also carried out on the seafront and main roads into the town, clearing litter, weeds and graffiti.
