A COUNCILLOR had a lucky escape when a coach was in collision with a 'wide load' truck at Bishopsteignton.

Cllr Chris Clarance, of Shaldon, was travelling with other members of a Teignbridge Council planning site inspection team, when the rear of their coach was involved in the accident on the main A381 near Jack's Patch nursery and garden centre on Monday.

'I was sitting at the rear, but got up to move further along. It was very lucky that I did, because the load on the passing vehicle struck that corner, causing a lot of damage.

'I am sure I would have been injured if I had still been sitting there,' said Cllr Clarance, a district, county and parish councillor.
