A couple have taken a tough decision to quit the Teignmouth boys' brigade after almost 30 years. 'After we decided to call it a day, we sat down and cried, because it has been a lifetime's work,' said Jenny Thorpe, who has run the brigade with husband Charles. They retired after Charles' hearing deteriorated, and it is a sad occasion for the dedicated couple, along with the lads and the local Baptist Church. Down the years hundreds of youngsters aged between five and 18 have passed through the 1st Teignmouth Boys' Brigade and many still keep in touch. 'We have enjoyed every minute of it. The brigade gives youngsters self-confidence and self-worth, and we teach them to put other people before themselves and have moral values,' explained Jenny.
