ORGANISERS of Bovey Tracey’s Contemporary Craft Festival have plenty of reason to celebrate.
They had barely got over the fact that the popular summer event had won gold in the Visit Devon Awards, when they heard the news they had reached the finals another prestigious award. The festival is in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards for the third time, and been shortlisted for the Festival of the Year category.
Festival director, Sarah James who lives in Bovey Tracey, is delighted to have been shortlisted. She said: ‘We’re a non-profit making business and we put every penny into the event and the local community. It would be fantastic for the team and Bovey Tracey if we could bring back the double!’
Next year will be the 15th for the craft festival, when more than 200 craftsmen and artists will be offering the finest hand-made jewellery, ceramics, furniture, art and glass. The festival, whose reputation reaches across Europe, is an important part of Bovey Tracey’s summer season and generates a lot of business for the town and surrounding area.
The organisers will find out if they’ve won at the Tourism Awards dinner and celebration at the Riviera Centre in Torquay on February on February 1.
Sarah said: ‘We’re looking forward to another nail-biting evening, we’re keeping everything crossed!’
