A NEW monthly craft market in Buckfastleigh is to help raise funds for a community family Christmas party.

Makers from around the town got together to showcase and sell a range of hand-made products, including pottery, yarns and fabrics, jewellery and hats, at Buckfastleigh Town Hall on Friday.

The event added nearly £100 to the Christmas party fund.

Pam Greenhill, one of the organisers, said: ‘So many people in our community rely on the food bank to make ends meet. Prices are rising and people are struggling under the weight of benefit cuts.

‘This year we want to have a Christmas celebration for families who might need a little more support. Everyone deserves a day to remember, sharing the magic that comes from bringing people together.

‘This will be a community event, not a religious one, and all will be made welcome and all will leave with full bellies, our love and a pressie from Santa.’

The next market will be held on November 6.
