FIREFIGHTERS tackled a large vegetation fire near Newton Abbot after receiving multiple emergency calls on Tuesday afternoon.

Crews from Newton Abbot Fire Station were mobilised shortly after 2.30pm on July 28 to reports of a fire in the open, with a second appliance from Torquay Fire Station also sent after fire control received several 999 calls.

On arrival, firefighters found a well-developed blaze involving hedgerows, grassland and vegetation.

Crews used two hose reel jets and fog spikes to extinguish the flames and ensure hotspots were fully put out.

The fire is believed to have been caused by an incinerator bin.
