MUSIC lovers gathered in a Newton Abbot park this past weekend for another successful annual performance by Choir 86.

Around 80 people enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment outside Our Pavilion Café in Forde Parke.

Among those attending were Newton Abbot MP Martin Wrigley, the Mayor of Newton Abbot, Councillor Louise Cooke, and the Mayor of Kingsteignton, Councillor Dave Ripping, who joined local residents for the popular community event.

The overcast weather provided ideal conditions for an outdoor concert, allowing the audience to relax and enjoy the performance in comfort, says councillor Mike Joyce, who was also in attendance.

Visitors also made use of the refreshments available at Our Pavilion Café throughout the afternoon.

Choir 86 presented a varied programme that appealed to all ages and musical tastes.

The audience was treated to a selection of well-known songs from stage musicals, including Les Misérables, Mary Poppins, Guys and Dolls, and productions by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

More contemporary favourites from Blood Brothers, Hamilton and The Kinks also featured, with several opportunities for the audience to join in.

The concert also highlighted the talents of four soloists and the Thursday Men Quartet, accompanied by accomplished percussion, guitar and keyboard players.

The performance was directed by the choir's long-serving Musical Director, Rosie Penny, whose leadership has helped shape the choir's reputation over many years.

This year marks a significant milestone for Choir 86 as it celebrates its 40th anniversary.

Since its formation, the choir has become a well-established part of the local community, providing entertainment for thousands of people through concerts and community events.

Behind every performance lies months of rehearsals and careful planning by choir members and volunteers. Their dedication continues to ensure the annual concert remains a highlight of the local calendar.
