THE support and attendance at the Vintage and Classic Tractor/Machinery Family Fun Weekend Country Fayre on Saturday and Sunday was 'even better than our wildest dreams,' said organiser Barry 'B J' Williams.
He said the event, held on a site adjacent to Masons Tractors, at Rixey Park, off the Kingsteignton-Chudleigh road, was a 'terrific weekend.'
Saturday was fairly quiet, but on Sunday the crowds flocked in.
It was opened by the NFU regional director, Anthony Gibson, who was announced by Newton Abbot Town Crier Ken Purchase.
As well as nearly 100 tractors to see there was plenty to do for young and old, and members of the South West Axe Men team stole the show with their performances.
The weekend was also supported by vintage rally groups from Dartmoor and Ashreigney, both of whom lost their events this year because of the foot and mouth crisis.
Proceeds from the weekend are being split between the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute and the Mare and Foal Sanctuary at Chudleigh.
Mr Williams thanked members of Devon Fire and Rescue Service and the Special Constabulary who attended, and the Sampson family for allowing the use of the site.
'This is the second event we have held, though last year it was on a much smaller scale. We have already made plans for the country fayre at the same venue in 2002 and are looking for sponsors,' said Mr Williams.
