Never have so many people been seen in the town centre for the switch-on of the town's Christmas lights.

Dressed in festive red, Cllr Anne Fry, mayor of Newton Abbot, Freya Jennings, last year's carnival queen and Father Christmas, came together to light up the town on Saturday.

Hundreds of children, parents and shoppers gathered at the clock tower to witness the illuminations at 5.30pm.
