CUT price pub giant J D Wetherspoon is heading for Teignmouth.

The company yesterday confirmed to the Teignmouth Post that it had exchanged contracts on the empty former Tiggs clothing store in Station Road, which was originally built as a supermarket in the 1970s, and has been empty for some time.

Spokesman Eddie Gershon stressedplanning permission would be needed for a change of use, and a drinks licence, before the deal was completed. Until that was finalised, he could not give an indication of an opening date.

'We have been looking at Teignmouth for some years because we believe it is a vibrant town with a good future.
