Forecast high winds and heavy rain have prompted organisers of the Teignmouth Promenade parkrun to cancel the weekly 5km event tomorrow (Saturday January 24).

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain and wind until 9am on Saturday morning and has forecasting strong winds and heavy rain throughout the weekend due to an area of low pressure, named by the Portuguese national weather service as Storm Ingrid.

Rough seas are also likely to result in waves crashing onto the seafront course particularly as the 9am parkrun start coincides with Saturday morning’s high tide.

‘Based on conditions this morning and the predicted forecast for the morning, a decision has been made to cancel parkrun,’ the organisers said as they thanked all who had offered to volunteer for the event.

The wind, rain and high seas brought by Storm Ingrid has also resulted in Great Western Railways (GWR) suspending trains along the coast between Exeter and Newton Abbot this evening. GWR has arranged replacement coaches, which will operate from the front of stations until midday on Saturday to keep customers moving.
