EVERY day is different for the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team, and for the Ashburton crew, Monday was no different. The group, critical to helping those in difficulty on the moor, reported on two unique callouts.

The first callout saw Dartmoor Search and Rescue head out to the Dart Valley to aid an individual with a suspected broken ankle. They then attended a missing person situation.

They report on the day as follows: 'The team were called at 1227 asking for assistance in evacuating a person with a suspected broken ankle from the River Dart gorge who was around 3km upstream of Newbridge.

'We were able to deploy a casualty carer by Team Landrover to within a short distance of the casualty location, however it transpired that they had already been carried to within a few hundred metres of the road, with the help of members of the public.

'The casualty was attended by our casualty carers before being brought the remaining distance to the road in the team vehicle and handed over to the ambulance service. We wish them a speedy recovery.

'Whilst the previous call was underway, we were asked to stand by to assist in a search for a vulnerable elderly person who had missing from the Chudleigh area for the past 3 days. On completing the handover at Newbridge the team moved to Chudleigh and carried out extensive searches of high probability areas close to the home of the missing person.

'This included the difficult ground in and around Chudleigh Rocks and a number of other rural segments. We were joined later by our 2 search dogs and their handlers.

'Our searches were not successful and the team finally stood down at 2130. The Police enquiry remains ongoing. Our thoughts are with the family of the individual at this worrying time.'
