A ROAD closure in the centre of Dawlish has been delayed for a week.

South West Water was due to close Piermont Place today as part of its programme across the town to improve water quality.

But the closure, which affects the one way system through the town and was due to involve traffic controlled by four-way lights, has been put back.

A spokesman for SWW said: ‘Due to an issue with the traffic lights we’ve had to push the closure back to Monday.’

However, it is understood that if the four-way traffic lights were installed, lorries would not have sufficient room to access the Lawn.

The delay is the latest issue to affect the scheme after a one-way system for traffic at Elm Grove Road and Sandy Lane was brought into force a week before the work in Elm Grove Road actually started.

The town centre road closure also forced two bus stops to be suspended and moved several hundred metres further away.

SWW say the bus stops have all been moved back to their normal locations until the works start on Monday.

A spokesman added: ‘We are in contact with the council to see if there is a more suitable location for them.’
