ENGINEERS reached a ‘massive milestone’ on the Dawlish sea wall this week as the first concrete sections were slotted into place.

Five concrete panels were laid in over the course of last weekend – despite the best efforts of Storm Ciara.

But Network Rail’s workers still have a long way to go, with more than 100 sections set to make up the entire Marine Parade stretch.

The wave return also has to be added to the top – meaning the true height of the new structure hasn’t yet been revealed.

Simon Masters, a spokesman for Network Rail, said: ‘This is a massive step. It’s the first opportunity for local residents, train users and interested members of the public to actually see what the wall is going to look like.
