A group opposed to waste ash processing in a former Buckfastleigh quarry leased to a Heathfield company has called on organisations to attend a public meeting.

The move came after a subsidiary of German firm MVV Umwelt was chosen as the preferred bidder to build a plant in Plymouth that will generate power from rubbish.

Controversy developed in Buckfastleigh when MVV announced it wanted to transport thousands of tonnes of ash from the incinerator to Whitecleaves Quarry each year.

There it would be mixed with other materials and turned into products for the construction industry.
