Shaldon Theatre Company takes a boogie-ing dance step back in time with its production of Disco Inferno – The Musical at the Pavilions.

It’s a feelgood show set in the 70s, packed with floor-filling hits by bands of the era including The Bee Gees, Elton John, The Drifters, The Village People, The Real Thing and Earth, Wind & Fire.

The musical tells the story of Jack, an ambitious young nightclub worker who dreams of hitting the big time as a singer. He strikes a Faustian bargain with a mysterious character named Lady Marmalade to achieve fame and success – but when he gets what he wanted, he loses his girlfriend and his best mate in the process.

This causes him to think again about what he truly values in life, and whether he really wants to dance to the Devil’s tune.

Talking of tunes – the show features a full hit parade of 70s dancefloor favourites, including I Will Survive, Fire, You Should Be Dancing, Hot Stuff, Boogie Nights, Play That Funky Music and of course, Disco Inferno.

Linsie Kemp, a member of the theatre company, said: “I went to watch a rehearsal, and my goodness, this is going to be a fab show!

“As soon as it started, I was smiling and tapping my feet, and I so wanted to get up and dance!

“There are some great songs in it, and it is a real journey back in time.

“Even though it was just a rehearsal, I thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn’t wait to see it with costumes, make-up, lights etc.”

Disco Inferno – The Musical runs at the Pavilions, Teignmouth, from Wednesday, June 24 until Saturday 27.

Tickets for the opening night performance are £17; those for all remaining performances are priced at £20.
